Why Neurofeedback?
Simply put, because EEG Neurofeedback works.
Neurofeedback training (NFT) has its foundations in basic and applied neuroscience as well as data-based clinical practice. It takes into account behavioral, cognitive, and subjective aspects as well as brain activity, thus it meets the American Psychological Association’s definition of an evidence-based intervention.
Frank H.Duffy, M.D., a Professor and Pediatric Neurologist at Harvard Medical School, stated in an editorial in the January 2000 issue of the journal Clinical Electroencephalography that based on current scholarly research, neurofeedback "should play a major therapeutic role in many difficult areas. In my opinion, if any medication had demonstrated such a wide spectrum of efficacy it would be universally accepted and widely used" (p. v). He continued to state, "It is a field to be taken seriously by all" (p.vii).
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback uses monitoring devices (sensors placed on the scalp connected to sensitive electronics and advanced computer software) to provide moment-to-moment information to an individual on the state of their physiological functioning and focuses on the central nervous system and the brain.
Neurofeedback is becoming increasingly popular because it’s safe, drug-free and facilitates the healing of many ailments.
Disorders that have been successfully treated with EEG Neurofeedback in clinical settings include (but not limited to):
The number of sessions required for successful treatment varies by individual. Differences such as age, diagnosis, and the brain’s ability to adapt to the feedback are taken into consideration. Adults generally require fewer sessions than children. The typical range is 20-60 sessions; however, many individuals find significant improvement in daily functioning within 5 sessions. Many individuals find the benefit they acquire from neurofeedback is long lasting, and for most people the changes are permanent.
A thorough assessment is required prior to beginning neurofeedback at Mental Edge Neurofeedback to determine if this treatment is right for you.
